Result of the experiment: ART

We can all be scientists. Actually, we experiment every day with little things such as a new recipe, a new outfit or a new hairstyle. But there are people who decide to take their research a step further and become a walking experiment. If not, just remember the example of scientists like Pierre Curie and his burned arm from the exposure to radioactive isotopes. These people decide to test in their own flesh the effects of certain things (substances, proceses…) with varied intentions, not only scientific.

That’s why today we are not talking about a scientist per se, but an artist, Bryan Lewis Saunders, who, among his other projects decided to make a daily self-portrait (he’s got more than 8000 so far) and that, as he so explains in his web:

After experiencing drastic changes in my environment, I looked for other experiences that might profoundly affect my perception of the self.  So I devised another experiment where everyday I took a different drug and drew myself under the influence.  Within weeks I became lethargic and suffered mild brain damage.  I am still conducting this experiment but over greater lapses of time.  I only take drugs that are given to me.”

90mg Abify. Antipsychotic.

Next I am showing some of the examples I like/have impressed me most together with the drugs he took to make them. Even though this is not “typical” science, it is another way of looking into that black box that is our mind. Uncovering its demons with drugs, unblocking its darkest mechanisms maybe we can get to figure out its delvings.
